The Malecon is the mile-long oceanfront boardwalk that runs along the main downtown street. It begins near the first hotel built in Vallarta in the 1940s, the Hotel Rosita, and ends at an open-air theater called "Los Arcos," or The Arches. Along the Malecon visitors can be seen watching the surf from the many benches or taking pictures of the many famous sculptures. On the opposite side of the street many restaurants offer stunning views and are a popular place to watch the sun set over beautiful Banderas Bay.
