Exhilarating and educational, this eco-activity has taken off in a big way in the four years since two progressive local companies established tours enticing young and old up into PV’s lush tropical rain forest. Imitation the sincerest form of flattery, there are now more than half a dozen such tour operators, yet the original two remain head and shoulders above the rest, their guides well trained and bilingual, their Sierra Madre locations unbeatable.
Canopy Tours de Los Veranos’ motto is “Have fun. Spend the day and play.” It offers something for every member of the family; while dad’s spotting exotic orchids as he speeds over a river gorge along 14 cables, mom can be perusing the gift shop and the kids playing on water slides or meeting the local mascots — fawns, monkeys, pythons and tarantulas. The tour conveniently ends at a palapa bar boasting 80 brands of tequila and a pretty riverside restaurant that offers whatever you’re in the mood for, whether a hamburger or lobster.
