What happens when you provide turtle hunters with an alternative, more profitable modus vivendi, one they can pursue without further endangering a protected species? It all started a few years ago in Mazunte, a small fishing village in Oaxaca, where visiting Body Shop International owner Anita Roddick decided to support existing ecotourism projects by providing locals with guidance in developing a line of natural cosmetics. Several years later, the “miracle of Mazunte,” as it’s commonly called, is alive and well, having turned the village into a prosperous example of ecologically sound empowerment. And we can now reap the benefits of these unique body products locally by visiting Santisima on Basilio Badillo 216, (322) 222-8750.
