Visit the dairy section of any Puerto Vallarta supermarket and you’ll find a surprising selection of fine imported cheeses. But perhaps you’ll be more surprised to learn that you can satisfy your craving for Brie, Camembert, feta, fontina and other unique cheeses and support the local economy at the same time! Located near Guadalajara in a region known as Los Altos de Jalisco, Quesos Caprina has been producing artisan cheeses, using the finest ingredients, and winning coveted awards worldwide. Their well-deserved reputation has made them the official cheese provider for Puerto Vallarta’s prestigious Festival Gourmet International. A year ago, they decided to set up shop across the street from the popular El Brujo restaurant (Venustiano Carranza 509, El Centro. 223-4433), offering the aforementioned favorites along with their own original twists — a scrumptious chipotle-flavored goat cheese is not to be missed.
