From every angle, Puerto Vallarta is stunning — but see it from this breezy mountaintop restaurant, and you’ll be flabbergasted. All of PV, the venues people commonly go to for the views included, is at your feet. And untouched nature is all around you.

You might have spotted this perfect place to soak in all that is PV when checking out the stars, since it’s lit up at night, and thought: What is that way up there? And how on earth do you get to it?

Well, while it is definitely off the beaten path, it’s just a 10-minute drive from downtown — most of that straight up, of course, which makes it, shall we say, exciting. But taxis do it all the time, the adventure of getting there and back matched only by the awesome views.

If You Go:

• This Mexican palapa restaurant, serving jumbo margaritas, is open every day 1 - 11 pm.

• You pay a $50-peso minimum charge at a manned “gate,” which is deducted from your bill. The reason?
Las Carmelitas itself built part of the road you take, and too many were using it to just go to take pictures and then leave.

• The air much fresher here, the restaurant considerately hands out serapes.

• Staff will call you a taxi to get home.
