Published Apr 25, 2012 - (Updated Oct 30, 2012)
Without counting restaurants participating for the first time, this year’s Restaurant Week, May 15 - 31, will feature 12 restaurants offering three-course menus at $189 pesos per person (drinks and tip not included). In the fourth of a seven-part feature, we focus on the first group of $189-menu restaurants, wrapping up the series with all the restaurants participating in Restaurant Week for the first time. It has been a challenging couple years for Archie’s Wok, with ongoing construction on Los Muerto’s new pier taking place a few feet from their doorstep. This, however, hasn’t taken away from the amazing ambiance you will experience in this intimate Asian restaurant once you step inside. Great food, great karma and live music on several evenings!
While the number of restaurants offering Spanish specialties is increasing throughout the Bay, Barcelona Tapas remains at the top of the list for many thanks to their outstanding cuisine. The restaurant’s proximity to the newly-remodeled Malecón makes it ideal for a leisurely stroll followed by a delicious meal.
Those living and working in Puerto Vallarta’s colonia Emiliano Zapata and surrounding neighborhoods are in on a little secret: while many images are published showcasing vistas of our downtown area photographed from Gringo Gulch, the view from Altavista is equally alluring. Of the half-dozen restaurants in the Altavista hills, Casa Isabel’s Madison South offers on of the finest views of Emiliano Zapata, and the bay, not to mention the nightly fireworks. A definite must!
For the past few years, Coco Iñiguez has developed a steady following thanks to her memorable breakfasts offered at several restaurants in Emiliano Zapata. Having taken over one of the nicest garden seating locations in the neighborhood, Coco’s Kitchen is a great option for intimate, al fresco dining. And her breakfast are still spectacular!
Coco Tropical, along with a handful other popular restaurants, features an excellent oceanfront location right in Los Muertos beach, by far Puerto Vallarta’s most popular. Coco Tropical’s slightly elevated seating area makes it ideal for people watching, and their Restaurant Week menu features one of several shrimp specialty dishes served by the restaurant year around.
There are many restaurants in the bay that feature traditional Mexican dishes in their menus. However, there is a distinct difference between these, and restaurants that truly specialize in Mexican cuisine, such as El Arrayán, where traditional and authentic are not necessarily the same thing, and you will truly enjoy the real deal. A special treat on Fridays and Saturdays: live music!
