An unassuming thimble gives clues about the size of these exquisite miniature pots, only 1.5 inches tall, created by Mata Ortiz artist Guadalupe Gallegos. A potter since he was 15, Gallegos, now 30, is one of the many ceramists influenced by Juan Quezada, the originator of the ceramics movement generally referred to as Mata Ortiz Pottery, after the name of the small Mexican village where they are created. Highly sought after by major museums worldwide and art collectors alike, these intriguing pieces can be found locally at Galería de Ollas in El Centro.
