“I’m pretty ecstatic with our life,” exclaims Rebecca Scotti, enjoying a particularly breezy Puerto Vallarta afternoon with her husband, Zachary Rabinor, on their back porch. Having settled in Puerto Vallarta fulltime in 2006 to raise their two children, they represent an increasing segment of folks from the United States who share a belief in the transformational values acquired through international travel. Originally from Washington, DC, and New York, respectively, they met while pursuing graduate degrees at the University of California, San Diego. At that time, Rabinor had already travelled extensively through Mexico and Central America, working as a teacher and travel guide.
Always convinced they would eventually settle outside the USA, the fluent Spanish-speaking couple launched Journey Mexico (www.journeymexico.com
) in 2003. A success from the get-go, Journey Mexico quickly matured from offering prescheduled trips to organizing luxury adventures that include a broad range of private, custom travel experiences throughout Mexico, from volcano summits in central Mexico to top-notch gastronomy and accommodation getaways in San Miguel de Allende, Morelia and Patzcuaro.
Initially headquartered in San Diego, Journey Mexico’s growth called for a more local, top-tier presence, so Scotti and Rabinor relocated their company—and their lives—to Puerto Vallarta in 2006. “Puerto Vallarta is the only beach destination in Mexico that still maintains its local flavor,” comments Rabinor, who praises our city’s beauty, labor pool, communications infrastructure “and, of course, great surfing!” “We came to Mexico for opportunity,” adds Scotti. “There’s so much going on here, so much to experience, we’re thrilled to be raising our children here.”
