Working for the Education of the Less Fortunate
Natives of Mexico City, Carlos and Mariel Fregoso moved to Puerto Vallarta in 1992, charmed by the warmth of its people and the beauty of that small town of long ago. They opened their own business but had to close it during the financial crisis Mexico suffered in 1994.
It was then that Mariel received the invitation to join the Becas Vallarta association to support the education of children with limited resources. Today, she is president of the association, as she has been for the past six years of the 10 she has dedicated fulltime to the cause.
Prompted by the spirit of service instilled in him at an early age by his mother, Carlos joined the project in 1998, bringing significant experience with other charitable associations. He and Mariel are committed to changing the lives of underprivileged youth who wish to continue their education and become successful professionals.
Their greatest challenge is obtaining the funds and volunteers needed to continue their work and increase the number of scholarships they offer. They both share a moral commitment to help those in less fortunate social and economic circumstances, and they feel they benefit from the work themselves, as it makes them appreciate the opportunities life has given them. Their example is inspirational, encouraging us all to help those in need for the good of the community. Becas Vallarta, A.C. (322) 221-0789.
