In an attempt to beautify and improve the facilities of the Rio Cuale Municipal Market, aka the “Flea Market,” the Jalisco secretary of tourism and the municipal tourism board invested $1.2 million pesos to renovate the façade, which was accomplished in a surprisingly short period of time. The primary goal was to remove the plastic awnings and asbestos roofing, so the market be more congruent with the renovations done in the center of town, as well as to take advantage of federal resources allocated to the city for the rescue of what is known as the historic city center. The market project also included removing some cables and pipes, and improving lighting.
