Supported and organized by the federal, Nayarit state and Bahía de Banderas governments, Nautical Extravaganza 2010 was a first-class event for water lovers of all stripes, offering a month of events related to water sports and marine culture in Riviera Nayarit. The modern Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle hosted most of the events, while the Vallarta Yacht Club in Nuevo Vallarta served as sub-headquarters.

The main focus of the Extravaganza was the Mexican Bicentennial Nextel Cup Regatta, which included seven events that attracted experts in all classes and categories of world sailing, as well as international soccer and beach volleyball tournaments. Other Extravaganza events included the Banderas Bay Regatta, the Latin America Boat Show and the first phase of the 2012 Challenge with sailor Tania Elías Calles.
