Originally from Utah, Day began his career singing, and playing jazz standards in piano bars and retirement homes. Eventually, he began writing his own material and that’s when things kicked into high gear, with four albums released between 2004 and his latest, The Mystery of You, in 2013 on the Concord Records label.

Spencer performed at the 2007 San Francisco Jazz Festival, and has been a much requested headliner in a number of high-profile music venues and festivals, including Yoshi’s, the Plush Room, the Great American Music Hall, Herbst Theatre, Monterey Jazz Festival, Tanglewood Jazz Festival and the Hollywood Bowl. He has also earned raves for performances at the Town Hall, Joe’s Pub, the Canal Room in New York City, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC., not to mention England, Japan, Australia and Indonesia.

In addition to his highly acclaimed musicianship, Spencer has excited his audiences with his quick wit and unique, yet subtle humor, as witnessed in his most recent “Day Trippin” one man show, a musical memoir about how we use art as a means to escape, find our voice and survive.

His versatility and love for his fans allows him to feel comfortable in a small jazz venue or in the expansive spaces of the Hollywood Bowl. As Spencer puts it, “As I grow as a musician, I hope to continue paying homage to the great artists who have shaped my style and sensibilities. I want to create music that is smooth and sophisticated but teeming with raw emotion and fire under the surface. It is in life’s contradictions where the most beautiful things are created.”
