Riviera Nayarit has just announced details for the Fourth Annual Open Water Swimming Tournament, to take place at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle on Saturday, May 17, starting at 7 am. The race has increased in popularity since its freshman edition, attracting competitors from five to 70 years of age.
“We expected 700 swimmers this year, and were forced to close our application process one week ahead of the tournament to keep from overbooking,” commented organizer Belín Villasante. “Our first year began with 300 swimmers and we’ve more than doubled that amount.”
The collaboration of several organizations, including hotels, restaurants and even infrastructure-related improvements, have been essential to guarantee a successful event. To that effect, Villasante was quick to praise Riviera Nayarit’s involvement in the process. “It would have been almost impossible to produce the event successfully without their participation,” she added.
The event is expected to attract competitors from the State of Mexico, Mexico City, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Colima, and of course, Nayarit and Jalisco. Mexican olympic champion Lizet Rueda Santos is expected to participate in the event.
Aside from becoming an additional draw to the many activities available in the region, this particular event promotes safe open water swimming, along with an increased awareness on keeping our beaches clean. For more information, please visit the website www.nadoseguro.com.
