Punta Sayulita has just announced the Mexican premiere of director Justin Krumb's environmental film Minds in the Water, to take place at an outdoor screening right on the beach (beach chairs suggested) on Wednesday, February 29, 7 pm, next to the Punta Sayulita Beach House (by Don Pedro's). The film will be projected on a large 7 x 10 meter screen right on the beach, and its director will be present to introduce the benefit screening and to answer questions afterwards.

Five years in the making, and as suggested by the film's subtitle—The Journey from Apathy to Activist—Minds in the Water is the story of one surfer’s international journey to help protect dolphins, whales and their ocean environment. Shot on location in Australia, the Galapagos, Chile and Japan, the film captures a key moment in one person’s life when apathy is no longer an option.

Pro surfer Dave Rastovich went from observer to activist when he embarked on a personal mission to help stop the worldwide commercial slaughter of dolphins and whales. While unsure at first, Rastovich quickly found his activist sea legs and helped build a core team of filmmakers, journalists, musicians, eco-pirates and celebrity surfers to help spread the message. “This whole journey started as a conversation between two friends a few years ago,” says Rastovich. “Since then, it has evolved into an international movement with thousands of followers who are actively making a difference.”

Minds in the Water has received a number of important accolades at international film festivals, worldwide. It will be projected in English (sorry, no Spanish subtitles!)

A suggested minimum donation of $100 pesos will serve to benefit the Punta Sayulita Foundation Environmental Education Programs. The event is also a great prelude to the many spectacular events that will take place during the upcoming Third Annual Punta Sayulita Longboard & SUP Classic, March 9 to 11.
