Puerto Vallarta Youth Orchestra Presents Summer Concert

Published Aug 7, 2013, 2:55pm - (Updated Oct 21, 2013, 12:40pm)

Puerto Vallarta’s Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Miguel Almaguer, will present their summer concert this coming Sunday, August 11, at 12:00 pm. The concert, titled A Viennese Evening, will take place at Teatro Vallarta.

For this performance, maestro Almaguer has chosen a light repertoire of European favorites, including two overtures by Austrian light opera composer, Franz von Suppé: Poet and Peasant and Light Cavalry, popularized in Walt Disney’s 1942 Mickey Mouse cartoon, Symphony Hour. The concert will also include works by Jacques Offenbach, Gioachino Rossini, Jacques Offenbach, Johann Strauss Sr., Johann Strauss Jr., and Mexican composer Juventino Rosas, whose Sobre las Olas waltz “remains one of the most famous Latin American pieces, worldwide,” according to The Oxford Companion to Music. The orchestra will perform said work.

Tickets for the concert are $100 pesos per person; children, students with ID and seniors pay only $50 pesos. Tickets are available at the Teatro Vallarta box office. For more information about the orchestra and its activities, please visit this Facebook page
