Progress Reported in New Guadalajara - Vallarta Highway

Published Aug 6, 2014, 2:23pm -

Several news outlets in the region recently reported advances in the new four-lane highway that will significantly reduce travel time between Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. The project involves a 184 kilometer stretch between Jala, Nayarit, and Puerto Vallarta. While the entire project will not be complete until 2017, it is expected that 54 kms. between Jala and Compostela will be ready within the next 12 months, a 37% advance in the overall project. When completed, it is expected that the new highway will entice more visitors from Guadalajara and the Bajío region to consider Banderas Bay for weekend getaways and longer vacations.

The latest Google Earth updates show portions of the yet-to-be-labeled new highway under construction, running near the highway presently in place (Carr. 15).
