Please mark your calendars for Friday, November 22 for what promises to be an exciting and informative season opening event at Museo de Arte Peter Gray (MAPG.) Thirty international weavers from around Latin America and the U.S. will be exhibiting a diverse collection of original weavings, under the direction of Jean Pierre Larochette. Larochette is a world-renowned weaver with roots in France, the U.S. and Mexico. He last exhibited in Puerto Vallarta in 2012 at the Museum to great acclaim. Needless to say, they are very excited to host this new exhibition featuring his works of art and those of 30 of his contemporaries.

An added feature of the tapestry exhibition will be a pre-exhibit conference titled “Interweaving Cultures.” Participating in this round table discussion of evolving trends in the weaving community worldwide will be Jean Pierre Larochette, Erasto Tito Mendoza and Gabriel Canales from Mexico, Micala Sidore from the New Hampshire Institute of Art and Elke Hulse from Brazil.

The conference will begin at 2:30 pm on November 22 in the Edulab Auditorium on the campus of Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUC). Immediately following at 5:00 pm will be the opening of the exhibition of weavings at MAPG, also on the campus of CUC a short distance from the Auditorium. Light refreshments will be served. The entire program is free of charge to museum members and non-members alike.

If you have questions or need additional information, including directions to CUC, please feel free to contact Buri Gray at 221-5285.
