Transportes Aereos Regionales (TAR, tarmexico.com) a new regional airline based in Queretaro, has just announced new flights from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta, starting March 3, just in time for Spring Break. The airline will be using a fleet of three Embraer RJ145 jet planes with a 50-passenger capacity, and will offer several flights during the week. A special introductory rate of $865 pesos (for a one-way trip) will be available during the first month, after which the ticket price is expected to increase. In comparison, the first-class, one-way bus fare from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara (via ETN, etn.com.mx) is presently priced at $555 pesos. It takes almost 5 hours for the bus to travel from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara.
Presently, a new highway through the mountains is being constructed from Jala, Nayarit to Puerto Vallarta, connecting with the toll road to Guadalajara. Once this highway is completed in two or three years, the driving time from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara is expected to take slightly over three hours.
