New Movie+Picnic Film Series Announced in Puerto Vallarta

A recently-formed partnership between a local hotel, a film buff and a catering company, has resulted in a new series of film screenings in a gourmet picnic setting, in the heart of Puerto Vallarta’s Hotel Zone. The event, called movie+picnic, is the brainchild of Yang Leal of Filma13, also responsible for successful outdoor film screenings in Marina Vallarta.
Unlike the Marina Vallarta events, however, movie+picnic takes advantage of Puerto de Luna Hotel’s spacious grounds for a picnic experience. A $150 pesos per person ticket includes the movie screening, a set menu with optional dessert purchase, and courtesy popcorn and agua fresca. A petate, or straw mat, is also provided and folks are encouraged to bring their own blankets and cushions. The menu varies for each screening, according to the film’s country of origin. All films start at 7 pm and take place Sunday evenings. Puerto de Luna Hotel is located at Fco. Medina Ascencio 2500, in the Hotel Zone. A partial film schedule follows:
- November 24: Mistress of Spices (England/US, 2005)
- December 8: El Brindis (Chile, 2007)
- December 22: MineVaganti (Italy, 2010)
- January 5: Empanadas Argentinas (Argentina, 2001)
