Personal fitness trainer and local Zumba guru Efren Muñoz keeps a busy schedule. This past saturday he led a one-hour free Zumba Fitness class at the Agustín Flores Contreras sports complex (across from the Sheraton Bougainvilleas Hotel) in which over 200 people cheerfully participated. The event, sponsored by the Grupo Acir network of ratio stations, was called Bajale a tu Peso 2014 (Drop some kilos in 2014), and its goal was to jump start Vallartenses into enrolling in some type of fitness activity. “Obesity is now a serious concern throughout Mexico,” commented the instructor. “We must help make a difference in the quality of life of visitors and locals.”
An increasing number of certified instructors are offering classes on this popular dance fitness program developed in Colombia during the 1990s. With fast and slow rhythms, resistance training and catchy Latin music styles, Zumba is an excellent way to stay fit in Puerto Vallarta. Muñoz is currently teaching at Club de Leones in Emiliano Zapata, Orssfit in Marina Vallarta and the J&B Dancing Club in the Hotel Zone. For more information, visit his web site, efrenmunoz.zumba.com.
