Hacienda Jalisco Initiates Botanical Garden Project

Hacienda Jalisco, the landmark guesthouse built in San Sebastián del Oeste some 280 years ago, has announced plans to develop a botanical garden project within its beautiful grounds. “This will be a wonderful ‘plus’ for us, and a great connection to the local Vallarta Botanical Gardens,” commented Pam Thompson, whose son, Joe, oversees the property.
Building a botanical garden project, literally from the ground up, is no small accomplishment. Every plant, flower and tree on the grounds must be identified and labeled in both English and Spanish. To help facilitate this very important step, Thompson has devised an ingenious plan, involving a local business. Folks interested in lending a hand, are welcome to stop by FireWorks, the fire-your-own-ceramis studio at Los Mercados, on Friday, July 26, from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm. You will be given a tile and the use of whatever color paints you would like to use to create label tiles, from a list of over 100 plants and flowers. Once fired, the tiles will be used to identify the specimens at Hacienda Jalisco.
Those not able to participate on July 26 have the option of doing so the following day. There will be no charge for participating. For more information, please email Pam Thompson.
