With the Winter-Spring season coming to an end, live entertainment venues in Colonia Emiliano Zapata continue delivering a good deal with a broad variety of options for English- and Spanish-speaking audiences.
The Palm Cabaret and Bar on Olas Altas is presently featuring Emmy Award-winning comedian Bruce Vilanch, who has not only scripted most of the Academy Award telecasts over the past two decades; he’s also provided material to Richard Pryor, Lily Tomlin, Joan Rivers, Billy Cristal and Rosie O’Donnell, among others. Vilanch will be followed by the return of celebrity impersonators Joe Posa and Thirsty Burlington (aka Scott Townsend) and their Evening at the Birdcage, featuring incredible likenesses of Joan Rivers, Cher, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand.
In addition, The Palm continues with regularly-scheduled concerts by Jorge and Beata and the Argentinean duo Bohemia Viva, among other performers.
Act II’s Basilio Badillo entertainment complex has now opened their heralded wine bar and continues to feature Frida, a tribute to the life of Frida Kahlo in their large stage. A fusion of music, folklore and dance, Frida is the brainchild of dancer/choreographer Adriana Quinto. For Spanish-speaking audiences, the venue is also featuring Las Anecdotas del Miembro, or The Member Anecdotes, a comedy in Spanish that can be loosely considered the male equivalent of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues.
Their small stage is featuring drag diva Lady Bunny, of which The Village Voice commented “What a sick, offensive, appalling evening, I can’t wait to go again!” In addition, Canadian chanteuse continues presenting her celebrated Acústico concert.
