El Arrayán, a renowned Mexican specialties restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, has announced the opening of an area within the restaurant, devoted to art exhibitions. The new space, called “Espacio de Arte Arrayán,” will be officially launched with a reception for Guadalajara artist Roberto Gil de Montes on Wednesday, November 13.

Gil de Montes, whose oil paintings will be on display starting November 6, is originally from Guadalajara, a city where the murals of José Clemente Orozco and Day of the Dead celebrations had a major influence on his art. It was 1958, and he wanted to be a songwriter. But his decision and career changed when he saw a documentary about sculptor Henry Moore. It was then that he decided to become a visual artist.

He is a graduate of the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles , California and for 25 years was represented by Jan Baum Gallery. His works have been exhibited in prestigious Hispanic Art Exhibition of the United States of America, and is part of permanent collections at the Art Museum of Los Angeles County, the Phoenix Museum, and the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. The artist lives in La Peñita de Jaltemba, Nayarit.
