The local theatrical entertainment company Act II Entertainment has officially started construction of its new space, Stages, located at the corner of Insurgentes and Basilio Badillo in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. Construction will continue for 16 weeks, with opening scheduled for mid-November with the iconic Broadway musical, A Chorus Line.
The rest of the 2013/2014 season will wontinue with other theater performances, such as Steel Magnolias, The Drowsy Chaperone, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Ritz, as well as The Donkey Show—a late-night raucous interactive parody of Midsummer Night's Dream told in the context of 1970s disco music. ACT II's new concert series will include The Metamorphosis Concert, starring local singing/acting talent, Daniel Portela, and a collection of outstanding male vocalists called Solo Cinco, among others.
When completed, Stages will have three separate entertainment venues: a 158-seat theater called Main Stage, a cabaret space with capacity for 100 people called The Red Room, and a piano bar called Encore! In addition, there will be a Beer Garden terrace with access to the cabaret and piano bar. In an effort to appeal to the broadest audience range possible, it should be noted that several theater productions and shows to be presented in these spaces will be bilingual, including two of their major musicals, A Chorus Line and Jesus Christ Superstar.
