Melissa Castillo’s eclectic Cartelera Escénica is the only continuous series of dance, theater and music performances taking place in Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas. Taking breaks only during the Summer months, Castillo has been producing and scheduling performances just about every Friday evening for the past two years at the centrally located Cecatur Auditorium (corner of Zaragoza and Matamoros Streets, two small blocks away from Puerto Vallarta’s main plaza in El Centro).

To commemorate two successful years of continuous performances, Cartelera Escénica has just announced three back-to-back performances showcasing some of Puerto Vallarta’s most significant local talents in the three aforementioned areas. All three shows begin at 8 pm, with an admission price of $80 pesos per person, $50 for students and teachers with proper ID.

On Friday, September 27, Triada de Voces (or voice triad) will feature the singing talents of Camila Aguirre, Perla Alarcón and Kharla Barragán, each one of them displaying their unique singing style onstage. (Readers of this website may recognize Camila Aguirre as the female counterpart of Frixoleros, a traditional Mexican duet that performs regularly at several locations throughout the bay, including El Arrayán.)

The following evening (Saturday, September 28) is all about theater with a repeat performance of La Ley del Ranchero a play in Spanish written by Hugo Salcedo, performed by the Dionisio Theater Company. We recently reported on the company's award winning performance at a state-wide theater competition. Combining humor and drama, the play depicts a series of vignettes that take place at a low-brow cantina, interspersed with musical numbers. By peeling their own emotional layers through confessions and secrets, the performers progressively reveal the tragic truth of their life’s events.

The third evening (Sunday, September 29) is a celebration of dance in its many manifestations. Dancers will perform a variety of choreographies created by local talent, including Castillo, in a variety of styles.
