Ever since local dancer/choreographer/promoter Melissa Castillo began developing Cartelera Escénica, the Friday evening performance series at the CECATUR Auditorium, she’s focused most of her energy on promoting the many artists that have set foot on that stage. From poets to acrobats, actors to musicians, she has provided opportunities for many. Now, three years in the making, she places herself in the spotlight with the premiere of Escudriñando el Cielo (or scouting the sky), a contemporary dance montage for two dancers, music and voice, this Saturday, July 26 at 8 pm.
Always thirsty for new teachings, Castillo spends a considerable amount of free time traveling to other cities and participating in important workshops with other choreographers. “In the last three years of ‘recess’ I’ve been working, exploring and imagining this new project,” she explains. Escudriñando el Cielo uses contemporary dance, movement, sound and voice as a departure point to build four different scenes that feature, the choreographer along with fellow dancer Elvia Lizette Ornelas, with music by local band Agavezzound, voice by Conny Celis and a haiku by Rubén Cham.
Tickets for the performance are $100 pesos per person. CECATUR Auditorium is at the corner of Zaragoza and Matamoros in El Centro, only two blocks away from the Main Plaza. For more information about Cartelera Escénica, please visit their website, www.carteleraescenicapv.com.
