As part of his agreement with Mexico’s Consejo de Promoción Turística de México (Mexico’s Council on Tourism Promotion), award-winning guitarist Carlos Santana performed a concert in Guadalajara on December 14, and travelled to our destination to film scenes for an upcoming documentary. Once edited, the concert and documentary will be broadcast by HBO Latin America in 2014. The concert, titled “Corazón, Live From Mexico: Live it to Believe It” featured a number of talented Latin guest artists, including Lila Downs, Gloria Estefan, Juanes, Fher Olvera, Diego Torres and several others. In addition, he travelled to Puerto Vallarta with some of the aforementioned artists to film interviews at several landmark locations throughout Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, including the Church of Guadalupe, Hacienda San Ángel and the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. Once broadcast, the concert and documentary will be available for purchase on DVD. It is expected that this effort will go a long way in helping promote our destination, worldwide.
Santana has received numerous awards and nominations, including several Grammy Awards, Brit Awards, American Music Awards and many more. His 1999 opus, Abraxas, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and he has several entries in the Guiness Book of World Records, including Most Grammy Awards won in a single year by a group (2000, eight awards), Best selling album by a Latin artist (Supernatural, more than 27 million copies), and Longest gap between US chart album hits (28 years).

We reported in our Facebook page news from Puerto Vallarta’s municipality, stating that Santana would perform a concert in town sometime in December. Everything seems to indicate that this event will not take place. —Editor
