About 40,000 spectators, including tourists and citizen of Puerto Vallarta, enjoyed a major concert entitled “Vallarta en Vivo” on June 20. This spectacular event was headlined by the internationally renowned Mexican singer, Alejandro Fernandez, along with some of his famous friends. The concert was part of the campaign “Jalisco Vive 2009,” undertaken by the state government to help revive tourism in the state of Jalisco, especially as visitors to our city generate significant revenue to the area.

Alejandro Fernández said at the press conference prior to the concert that despite being a low season for visitors in the port, tourism authorities told him that the hotel occupancy rates had increased considerably thanks to the concert. The first spectators arrived at the entrances of the Malecon at 6:00 AM and waited up to 20 hours to see their favorite performers sing live.

Artists included Puerto Rican born Luis Fonsi, Spanish singers Enrique Iglesias and David Bisbal, Peruvian Gianmarco, and renowned Mexican artists Belanova, Joan Sebastian and Aleks Syntek, among others, joined this noble cause. A second concert to support this movement is scheduled for June 27 in the city of Guadalajara, where the concert will be led by Mr. Fernández in addition to other performers, including the world famous Gloria Estefan and acclaimed Mexican pop sensation Paulina Rubio.
