Galeria Pacifico is proud to announce the solo show of Alejandro Mondria Hiber. Born in Mexico City, Mondria entered the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design at eighteen, received a two-year grant to study at the affiliated Instituto Plaza Cenzi in Rome, and completed his formal education with postgraduate studies in Mexico. Throughout the years, his work has been featured in multiple gallery exhibits in the US and throughout Mexico. Of special note, this artist’s works were honored at a major solo exhibition in 2004 at the highly respected Museo del Chopo in Mexico City. Less than two years ago Mondria was the sole representative of Mexico, when he was invited by an association of galleries in Beijing, China, to participate at their expense in an art festival featuring interaction with artists from various countries around the world. Out of this experience was born his involvement with digital art, as well as creating an installation piece that involved building a raft out of bamboo that was specially decorated and set adrift in a river to pass downstream.
The significance of the river is related to the fact that Mondria´s work is nearly always involving water, especially the sea, and the way it interplays with light while portraying the solitude of the journey of the human condition. His refined technique consists of adding up to 30 layers of paint, and etching into the paint at different levels to achieve a special luminescence of the paint. This technique helps to epitomize different aspects of the symbiosis between water and light. This show will have a strong link to his past exhibitions but it is evident that Mondria’s work is more personal and introspective than before; whether in a complex piece involving many elements, or in the simplest portrayal of his inner solitude and innocence.
The artist will attend cocktail inaugurations in his honor at Galeria Pacifico´s downtown location on January 21st and 28th, at the Wednesday Art Walks from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. More information may be obtained by email at GaleriaPacifico@gmail.com or by calling (322) 222-1982. And feel free to drop by Pacifco´s spacious second floor location at 174 Aldama, between Juarez and Morelos downtown, during their regular hours Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, or by appointment.
