The Circus Comes to Isla Rio Cuale

Not only has Isla Río Cuale's La Cuiza recently reopened its doors to the public. The former restaurant and nightclub has put together “Cirque du La Cuiza,” a special evening of circus and acrobatic performances to set the tone for the new cultural and learning center, to take place Friday, March 22, at 9 pm.

Under new management, La Cuiza, the spacious indoor-outdoor venue located on Isla Río Cuale right behind Oscar’s Restaurant, is undergoing a bold transformation. “There are three ‘pillars’ that serve as our foundation: community education and inspiration,” explains manager Rubén Cham. “We want to be a community-driven space, where people can enjoy light fare, from coffee to a glass of wine while they enjoy casual conversation with their friends, or perhaps a good book. We want to offer a broad variety of courses, lectures and workshops for visitors and locals to attend, and we wish to inspire our visitors with our activities and art collection, which is available for sale.”

A visit to La Cuiza’s new website, www.lacuiza.com, reveals an increasing number of courses and workshops, along with a detailed calendar showing the venue’s possibilities. “We also want to invite locals and expats to submit a course or workshop proposal through our website,” adds Cham.

This Friday’s Cirque du La Cuiza will feature top-notch acrobatic entertainers, most of which are part of Prana, a local collective of talented acrobats, jugglers and gymnasts that can be frequently spotted performing at local hotels and important events. The evening will also feature live music, and a DJ. “We want those present to truly imagine the possibilities of the space as they enjoy the evening,” commented Melissa Castillo, who aside from producing the very successful ongoing Friday evening concerts at the CECATUR Auditorium, has gathered the talent for Cirque.

Tickets for the event are $70 pesos per person, pre-sale, and $80 at the door, one beverage is included with each ticket, making the evening extremely affordable. Advanced ticket purchase is strongly suggested. Tickets are available at La Cuiza, open seven days a week, 9 am - 9 pm.
