"How about giving us an update on the progress of the new pier," requested Vallarta Lifestyles Newsletter reader Jean Primm in a recent letter to the editor. We were happy to oblige. These images, photographed on October 30, show the progress on Los Muertos Pier. Day in and day out, dozens of workers are doing shifts continuously to meet the completion date, scheduled for December of the current year, while people continue to enjoy themselves in Puerto Vallarta's most popular beach.
When completed, the new Los Muertos Pier will provide comfortable access to pangas or water taxis heading for South Shore destinations. It's multi-level platforms will also allow for medium-sized cruise ships to pick up and drop off passengers without relying on dinghies. A series of sails will be hanging from its central mast and a light feature will display a constantly changing array of colors on the sails—or so they say. Renderings of the completed project also show the dead-end Francisca Rodriguez St. block as a landscaped, pedestrian-only walkway. Last but not least, the new Los Muertos Pier will become another important landmark in Emiliano Zapata, Puerto Vallarta's increasingly popular neighborhood.
