Just like Sayulita’s own Punta Sayulita Surf Classic, the Rainbow Sandals Gerry Lopez Battle of the Paddle attracts thousands of people that gather to watch the best SUP racers in the world compete for top accolades. Aside from organizing the annual event in Sayulita—it’s fourth edition to take place March 8-10, 2013—Punta Sayulita has been sponsoring Helm and Stalla so they can travel and compete at various SUP events around the US and Hawaii. Here are their results from the Battle of the Paddle:
- Men’s Elite Race Final - Ryan Helm 10th Place; Fernando Stalla (20th)
- Men’s Distance Race, 14-ft. Division - Fernando Stalla 10th Place in Class (12th overall); Ryan- 19th in Class (23 overall)
- UP Relay Race - Ryan & Fernando teamed up with Candice Appleby & Anthony Vella on Team Quickblade and finished 2nd. (See picture.)
