The Punta Sayulita residential club community (puntasayulita.com) is pleased to announce its sponsorship of Sayulita resident and professional Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) athlete, Ryan Helm. Ryan (38) was born in Los Angeles, California, grew-up and learned to surf in Jupiter, Florida and considers Sayulita, Mexico his current home base, where he resides with his wife Paola and two children (son Leon, 9 and daughter Ula, 4).

As a “waterman” and former spokesperson for (oil company) BP Invigorate’s “Younger for Longer” campaign, Ryan gained notoriety and celebrity status, along with Olympic Gold medalist, swimmer Dara Torres, for their emphasis on staying fit and living a healthy lifestyle. Ryan has also been an elite competitor in the ESPN X Games, in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

Considered as one of the "fittest surfers on the planet," Ryan has been featured extensively in domestic and international media and has trained with the renowned MMA Fighter, Urijah Faber ('The California Kid') at Ryan's Core Flow Energy Fitness Center in Sayulita, Mexico.

A successful “short board” surfer and former ASP World Tour campaigner, Ryan is regarded as a multi- talented surfer capable of excelling in various conditions from riding heavy barrels to aerial wizardry. Ryan is now focusing his energies and talents on meeting the "next challenge" by taking his short board skills to the SUP arena. Approximately 6 weeks ago Ryan turned many heads while competing against the top SUP athletes in the world at the 3rd Annual Punta Sayulita Classic where Ryan impressively placed 3rd in the SUP surfing contest, 2nd in the 10K SUP Distance race and 3rd in the SUP Elite Race.

With backing from his new sponsor, Punta Sayulita, the former Quiksilver Pro Rider will be showcasing his unique style of Finless SUP surfing and Stand-Up-Paddle racing on the World SUP Tour and other top tier events. Ryan’s first competition representing Punta Sayulita will be at the Waikiki Paddle Festival in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 5 - 6 where Ryan will be competing against a premier field of some of the best SUP racers in the world.
