Riviera Nayarit wrapped up the annual Nautical Extravaganza with the Banderas Bay International Regatta competition, the last of several nautical events, from kitesurfing to stand-up paddleboarding, that took place throughout the month of March. This year’s event began with the bi-annual San Diego to Puerto Vallarta Race, a traditional bi-yearly competition that has taken place for the last 31 years.

The annual Nautical Extravaganza showcases our destination’s favorable conditions to practice water-related sports this time of year. “People frequently wonder why the event takes place both in March and in Riviera Nayarit,” commented Dick Marckie, harbormaster at Paradise Village Marina, one of the multiple event venues. “This time of year, winds are strong during the afternoons, and mild at nighttime and mornings. The ocean is a sanctuary for many species, from humpback whales and olive ridley turtles, to marlin, tuna and other catch ideal for sports fishing.”
