President Calderón Present at Tianguis Opening

Published Mar 27, 2012, 1:55pm -

Mexico’s President, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, attended the Tianguis Turístico Puerto Vallarta - Riviera Nayarit opening ceremony along with the governors of Jalisco and Nayarit, Emilio González Márquez and Roberto Sandoval Castañeda, respectively. The event originated in Acapulco 37 years ago. This is the first time in which the event becomes itinerant, making Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit its first stop. During the ceremony, President Calderón received a reproduction of Mexican sculptor Rafael Zamarripa's iconic Caballito de Mar sculpture, considered Puerto Vallarta's official icon.

Designed to provide a meeting place for travel industry specialists from around the world, and create connections between them and our country’s vast tourism opportunities, the event is expected to produce 140 million pesos in revenues. During the four-day event, 22,000 meetings are expected to take place among thousands of attendees, a 40% increase over last year’s Tianguis, according to Federal Tourism Secretary Gloria Guevara Manzo.
