In order to improve the tourist promotion of Puerto Vallarta and its new Malecon, Mayor Salvador González Reséndiz has authorized the official sponsorship of the 2012 Puerto Vallarta Carnaval / Mardi Gras Parade. With offers of assistance in publicizing the parade as well as providing Transito support along the parade route, the parade promises to be a spectacle of great entertainment.
The Carnaval Parade has been held for the previous 3 years in the Zona Romantica and this year it is expanding to showcase the new Malecon. Beginning at 9 pm on Saturday, February 18, the parade will start at Parque Hidalgo and continue along the Malecón and I.L. Vallarta to Basilio Badillo and Olas Altas. A judging stand with entertainers and dignitaries will be set up on the Malecon at the Lighthouse.
The parade will include all elements of Puerto Vallarta culture. There will be mariachi bands, large colorful floats from many local clubs, circus performers, traditional dancers, beauty contest winners, presentations by local charity groups and much more. Over 100 entries will participate in the parade. Among them: Apaches, Casa Isabel, Club Mandala, Nacho Daddy, The Palm Cabaret & Bar, Saturday Market Co-Op, and the Vallarta Botanical Gardens.
In the tradition of the Mardi Gras parades in Mazatlan and Veracruz, this parade promises to be a highlight of the spring tourism season, attracting thousands of spectators, both national and foreign. It will, undoubtedly, become a Puerto Vallarta tradition and a new incentive for tourists and locals to spend time in our destination during the month of February.
