Puerto Vallarta-based Emmy-award winning television journalists Jon Duncanson and Sylvia Gomez of Aviana Productions
have been awarded a prestigious Aurora Award for their message-film production on behalf of the educational Oakland-based nonprofit Reading Partners. Competing against entries from Russia, Denmark, Hong Kong and other parts of the world, the Reading Partners film was cited for its creativity, message effectiveness and technical quality. Reading Partners is scaling nationwide, most recently to Washington, D.C., as it uses volunteer tutors to rapidly bring low-income children up to reading level at little cost to school districts struggling with crippling budget deficits.
The Aurora Awards is an international competition designed to recognize excellence in the film and video industries. It specifically targets products, programs and commercials that would not normally have the opportunity to compete on a national level, by focusing on non-national commercials, regional or special interest entertainment and corporate-sponsored film and video.
