The New Teatro Vallarta is Presented to Local Press

Published Feb 24, 2010, 5:23pm - (Updated Nov 28, 2011, 6:32pm)

Just days before its formal inauguration, Teatro Vallarta's owners along with representatives of the government of Jalisco opened its doors for the local press. Described as a space for world-class shows, Teatro Vallarta is located at Uruguay 184, El Centro, in the space formerly occupied by a long-closed movie theater.

The new facility will be the home base of Fandango, a music and dance performance featuring 30 dancers on stage and a 15-member orchestra. The show was conceived from scratch with a mission to raise Mexican folklore dance to another level. "We want to be the expression of a modern Mexico that we are now. And when the show tours outside of Mexico, we hope it will be compared to shows like Cirque Du Soleil," said Producer and General Director Manuel Diaz.

With capacity for 960 people and equipped with the latest sound and lighting technology, Teatro Vallarta and its show Fandango cost about 120 million pesos and involved over 132 people for the creation of the concept. This ambitious project also includes the construction of Plaza del Espectaculo, a square in front of the theater where great Mexican artists will be praised by unveiling sun-shaped with their names. The design of the “soles,” as they are referred to, was executed by acclaimed sculpture artist Alejandro Colunga. The first artist honored will be the singer Vicente Fernandez. The theater also features an art gallery space  located at its main entrance. Additionally Fundación Fandango, a charitable association that will offer music and dance learning opportunities for Puerto Vallarta children, will be stablished.

The official inauguration of Teatro Vallarta will be March 6th for special guests, and Fandango opens for the general public March 10. Tickets to see the show are expected to cost approximately $100 and $80 USD, and are available at the theater box office. For more information, call 224-8716.
