Mundo Ceiba, a Oaxaca-based non-profit that encourages citizens' involvement in social and environmental causes, is organizing a recreational bicycle ride in Puerto Vallarta, this Sunday, February 14, 9 am - 12 pm. The event, organized in conjunction with local authorities, will take place along a 2 km loop in some of the most peaceful, tree-lined streets in Fluvial Vallarta (check image below for route map). This is a perfect opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy the pleasure of riding a bicycle for recreational purposes, along with friends and family. Additional activities, including educational workshops for parents and their children and a yoga class will also be available. And if you do not own a bicycle anymore, you will be able to rent one from the organizers at the meeting point, at the corner of Jesus Rodriguez Barba & Fluvial Ave.
Closing city streets on certain days of the week to allow for recreational bicycle rides is a popular trend in many cities around the world. In Mexico, cities such as Guadalajara and Mexico City close important arteries on weekends, creating awareness of the bicycle as an environmentally friendly and healthy alternative.
Mundo Ceiba has organized successful cycling events in other cities in Mexico, and is involved in many interesting projects. Learn more about the organization through their Spanish-only website, www.mundoceiba.com.
