New York’s Metropolitan Opera continues its series of live broadcasts of their Saturday matinee performances with Mozart’s La Clemenza di Titto, to be presented at Teatro Vallarta this coming Saturday, December 1, at 12 pm. A free, pre-performance introductory lecture will be offered by Vallarta Lifestyles Managing Editor, Paco Ojeda at 10:40 am in English, and 11:15 am in Spanish. The opera’s approximate running time is 2 hrs. 50 min., and it will be performed in Italian with Spanish subtitles.
For one of his final operas, Mozart examined romantic and political intrigue with a compelling return to the opera seria form, a musical term which refers to the noble and “serious” style of Italian opera that predominated in Europe from the 1710s to 1770. The acclaimed mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, along with Mexican operatic tenor Ramón Vargas, lauded as one of the most expressive and agile lyric tenors of the 21st century, lead a superb ensemble of artists ideally suited to the challenges of this profound masterwork.
Tickets for this and the remainder of this season’s Live in HD series are $250 pesos per person, available at Teatro Vallarta’s box office.
