Teatro Vallarta wraps their season transmissions of The Met: Live in HD live screenings of the prestigious opera company's Saturday matinees from Lincoln Center in New York City with their production of George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare this coming Saturday, starting at 11 am. An introductory lecture will be offered by Vallarta Lifestyles' Managing Editor, Paco Ojeda, at 10 am.
After several years in the making, Teatro Vallarta responded favorably to community requests and brought The Met's live opera transmissions in high definition to Puerto Vallarta for the first time this season. The Met has already announced their upcoming 2013-2014 live transmission series, which includes repertoire favorites, such as Puccini's La Bohème and Tosca, along with other outstanding selections. However, given the lukewarm attendance numbers during this past season, Teatro Vallarta is not ready to confirm that they will continue with the program next season. "We anticipated getting larger audiences," commented Teatro Vallarta manager, Salvador Luna, in a telephone conversation. "Unfortunately, the Met opera broadcasts have failed to reach the critical mass we were anticipating.
Teatro Vallarta will be looking closely at attendance numbers this coming Saturday, and will make an announcement as to whether they will continue broadcasting the Met's Live in HD series later on this month. Locals interested in keeping the Met broadcasts in Puerto Vallarta are urged to attend and spread the word.
Tickets for Giulio Cesare are $250 pesos per person, general seating, with special pricing for teachers and students. The opera is 4 hours, fifteen minutes long. For more information and advanced ticket purchases, please visit Teatro Vallarta's web site: www.teatrovallarta.com.
