Teatro Vallarta Announces Remaining Opera Season

Two more screenings from The Met, Live in HD remain in the current season. On Saturday, April 26, The Met will present Mozart’s Così fan tutte and on Saturday, May 10, the featured opera will be Rossini’s La Cenerentola. Both performances will commence at noon and will feature English subtitles. Vallarta Lifestyles’ managing editor, Paco Ojeda, will be on hand to offer free introductory lectures for both operas, beginning at 11:15 am.
This is the second season during which Teatro Vallarta has partnered with Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional along with several other important theaters throughout the country—Auditorio Nacional handles transmission licensing for The Met in Mexico—offering The Met, Live in HD. For those familiar with the broadcasts, The Met, Live in HD offers theatergoers a very comprehensive experience that includes interviews with performers, directors and crew during intermissions, along with behind the scenes views of what it takes to produce such impressive performances. The good news is, little by little, the opera performances have seen an increase in attendance, but mostly among expats.
“Attendance improved during this second season,” commented Teatro Vallarta Manager, Salvador Luna. “Regretfully, locals have been slower to show interest in opera than foreigners living in Puerto Vallarta. But we have high hopes that the Met opera transmissions will continue to position themselves as a cultural option for both expats and Mexican nationals during the third season.”
The Met has already announced their 2014-15 Live in HD season, which will include favorites, such as Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Bizet’s Carmen. Contemporary opera masterpieces, such as Adam’s The Death of Klinghoffer, will also be featured. Explore the entire 2014-15 season by visiting the Met's website.
