Preparations are now underway for the first International Fireworks Festival to take place in Puerto Vallarta during the month of december, according to Department of Culture Director, Sergio Zepeda. Plans to organize said festival were first announced in 2013. At the time, it was expected that ten different countries would participate.
Fireworks are closely tied to Mexico’s traditional identity. An important fireworks festival takes place annually in the town of Tultepec, State of México, where almost 50% of the country’s fireworks are produced. The festival lasts for nine days, attracting more than 100,000 visitors to the municipality. It is expected that the new Puerto Vallarta fireworks festival, presently in the planning stages, will also attract a sizable number of visitors during the second half of December.
Zepeda also announced a new cultural community-based TV channel that may begin broadcasting locally, initially through the Internet, and eventually through a television frequency. Transmissions are expected to begin in two months.
