Narrative synopsis:
The American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) was almost exterminated in Mexico in the 1960-ties due to intensive hunting. Today perhaps only a tenth of the original population survives. The loss of natural habitat forces crocodiles to ever-closer contact with the humans.
On the background of legend about the blue crocodile our documentary unravels true relationships on the imaginary line in between this mythical reptile and the world of an ordinary Mexican citizen.
We travel the length of Mexican west coast, searching for the legendary blue crocodile and encounter many crocodile “touches” – marks and clues. We will show unique people and unique places in Mexico, where interaction of humans and crocodiles forms part of everyday life. Conservationists, policemen, scientists, tourists, fishermen, children, swimmers, they all speak of the fate of a creature so venerated in the past -today often the number one public enemy.
But is it necessary to fear the crocodile? Our documentary will answer this question. Its ambition is to help change the perception of crocodile – the killer.
This mosaic of mini-stories - “touches” is intertwined with a dramatic capture of a large crocodile – a cattle-killer from Chiapas, who needs to be saved from the villagers’ wrath and new safe home found for him. Is this effort going to be successful? Will he show us the path to the blue crocodile?

Sinopsis:
El cocodrilo de río (Crocodylus acutus) casi fue exterminado en México en los años 60 debido a la caza severa. Hoy sobrevive una décima parte de su población original. La pérdida del entorno natural obliga a los cocodrilos a vivir cada vez más cerca de los humanos.
Como fondo a la leyenda del cocodrilo azul, el documental explora las actuales historias de gente y cocodrilos. ¿Cómo es la vida diaria en contacto con tales criaturas? ¿Cómo se siente tocar a un cocodrilo?
Desde el cocodrilo venerado hasta el cocodrilo que nada en aguas negras llenas de basura. De un lado gente con vidas destruidas por mordida de un cocodrilo, del otro lado personas que arriesgan sus vidas a diario para protegerlos.
Una situación inaudita para la mayor parte del mundo es, sin embargo, una cuestión de la vida diaria en México.
La película corrige la simplificada y errónea percepción de cocodrilos como asesinos sangrientos y ofrece un final sorprendente que invita a reflexionar.
El documental es trabajo de nada más dos personas (Petr Tomaides y Petr Myska) que dedicaron 3 años a su producción.
