Enjoy the South Side Shuffle
The South Side Shuffle is a street party of sorts, a "shindig" that takes place in colonia Emiliano Zapata every other Friday from 6 to 10 pm, in the vicinity of Basilio Badillo and Constitución streets. Everyone is invited.
The South Side Shuffle is an "open house," whose purpose is solely to promote the local businesses and to have fun. A dozen shops and galleries on Basilio Badillo and Constitución join in the fun with culture, conversation, strolling mariachis and complimentary cocktails.
Basilio Badillo and surrounding streets has been known as a "one-stop shopping center" for several years, with a broad variety of shops selling quality items, from folk art to fine art; home furnishings to jewelry; food to fine wines. Back in 1988, however, Basilio Badillo was known for three restaurants: Roberto's Puerto Nuevo, Pizza Joe and El Tucan. These restaurants were so successful that more restaurants and other businesses started to relocate to this area.
In the mid-90’s there were 12 restaurants on the 200 block of Basilio Badillo and for years it was known as Calle de los Cafés (Restaurant Row) Most of the restaurants have closed, and fine shops started to take over.
In 2010, several businesses decided to move forward, partnering with the South Side Shuffle project, to help promote the area.
