Puerto Vallarta is known as a gastronomic destination. Many say that Vallarta has the best culinary experience outside of Mexico City and Guadalajara. And its not all Mexican! There's been a strong European influence in Vallarta for many years, while in recent years an increase in Asian cuisine. Visit our restaurant section for a wide selection of restaurants in the region. Two major culinary events take place each year; Festival Gourmet in November and Restaurant Week in May.
With regards to tours and activities, most of these are not community specific, so the best place to find out what there is to see and do in the region is to visit our Tours & Activities section. Vallarta is also arts destination, with numerous galleries throughout the region. The vibrant colors of Vallarta, where the tropical foliage meets the ocean, has inspired artists to make the area their home, with an endless supply of scenes to recreate.
Mexico has always been know for shopping, and Vallarta offers all sorts out shopping opportunities. Every community has its own unique shops, with a number of shopping centers situated mostly within the Hotel Zone. There are Flea Markets in downtown Vallarta, with the two most popular on or next to Isla Cuale.
