Gil Gevins, the notoriously camera-shy and reclusive author, was born in the United States and currently resides somewhere else. In his long and checkered career he has appeared in public only once, on an Oprah Winfrey show featuring four guests, all of whom had undergone transgender surgery. Best known for his side-splittingly funny short fiction, Slime and Punishment is Mr. Gevins’ first novel. In it, he tells the story of a wealthy and prestigious surgeon who is led astray by a certain appendage, with hilarious and tragic results.
